For more than 170 years, Œuvre d’Orient has been working with Christians in the East across 23 countries in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, Eastern Europe, and India.
In times of war and peace alike, it supports the work of bishops, priests, and religious communities who serve everyone, regardless of religious affiliation.
L’Œuvre d’Orient is a French Catholic and apostolic association. It operates under the authority of the Archbishop of Paris and works to serve Christians in the East, remaining faithful to its mission and ensuring transparency in its activities.
Since its founding, Œuvre d’Orient has carried out its work in collaboration with its partners, the Eastern Catholic Churches, and their unique network of stakeholders.
More than 400 schools receive support from Œuvre d’Orient to provide children with an education, rebuild school buildings, and pay teachers’ salaries.
L’Œuvre d’Orient funds the care of 3 million patients in clinics, hospitals, and facilities for people with disabilities or the elderly.
By supporting the formation of men and women religious, the Œuvre d’Orient enables priests and religious congregations to carry out their daily missions.
L’Œuvre d’Orient works to preserve the heritage of Eastern Christianity by protecting it in its home countries and promoting it in France.
